Excellence in Restoring Dental Procedures: Dental Crowns at Regala and Su, DDS

FC – Excellence in Restoring Dental Procedures: Dental Crown at Regala and Su, DDS

At Regala and Su, DDS, we specialize in restoring and maintaining optimal oral health by providing high-quality, custom restorative care. One of our most reliable and finest proven treatments is the dental crown, a versatile way to conserve damaged teeth, providing a long-term dental foundation and increasing function. Dr. Arleen Regala and Dr. Angela Su, with combined experience of over 30 years, prepare crown restoration customized to the unique needs of each patient within an environment centered on integrity, precision, and care.

What is a Dental Crown?

A full-coverage restoration crowns an entire tooth to restore its structure, integrity, and function. Its latest use is on a tooth that cannot afford support for a filling because it is grossly damaged or compromised. Crowns are made of a very durable material designed to withstand daily bite force while looking natural and fitting comfortably.

If you broke a tooth, had a large cavity, or had root canal treatment, a crown is one way in which that tooth can be protected and restored without being removed.

Why Dental Crowns Are Required?

Crowns are recommended for various clinical reasons, including:

  • Repairing a broken or cracked tooth
  • Covering a tooth suffering from extensive decay and unable to provide sufficient strength for restoration with a filling
  • Protection for a tooth that had undergone root canal treatment
  • Holding a dental bridge in place
  • Reshaping an anomalously shaped tooth
  • Layering an overtreated tooth
  • Replacing an old crown that has become loose

Re-establishing a proper form, function, and durability enables you to chew and speak again with confidence.

Materials Used for Crowns

At Regala and Su, DDS, we have partnered with the most trusted laboratories to guarantee that the crowns we fabricate are made of high-quality materials, satisfying each patient's clinical and aesthetic needs. The most widely used crown materials include:

  • Porcelain or Ceramic: Highly recommended for front teeth or patients keen on metal-free restoration, porcelain crowns are natural-looking and very resistant.
  • Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM): A combination of metal strength with the aesthetic nature of porcelain, creating an extremely strong yet tooth-colored restoration.

Dr. Regala and Dr. Su will advise you about the tooth's location, the degree of wear and tear it is exposed to, and what you like.

The Procedure of Dental Crown Fitting

Our crown process is highly thorough, detailed, and, most importantly, focused on your comfort. Here is what to expect:

  1. Extensive Evaluation

This first visit requires an evaluation of your tooth and taking of digital X-rays. Along with that, we will assess other structures attached to that tooth. Salvageable and suitable teeth will allow the placement of a crown, and we've discussed treatment goals, so the finer details will be discussed when proceeding with the next steps forward.

  1. Tooth Reduction

After the tooth has been prepared, models or digital scans are taken to send to the dental laboratory. A temporary crown is then placed to protect the prepared tooth while the permanent crown is being created. This interim crown allows you to eat and speak comfortably in the meantime.

  1. Impressions and Temporary Crown

Impressions or digital scans of the shape of the tooth are taken when the tooth is shaped and sent to our dental laboratory. A temporary crown is placed on the prepared tooth for protection while your final crown is being prepared.

  1. Custom Fabrication

Our partner lab technicians will customize your new permanent crown for the required fit, color, and proper bite alignment. This generally takes 1-2 weeks.

  1. Final Fitting and Placement

The second visit is due once your crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed, the area cleaned, and the new crown will be fitted for fit and beauty. Once it passes the final check, the crown will be cemented in place with dental-grade cement.

Benefits of Long-Term Use of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns serve both restorative and preventive roles. Their benefits include:

  • Protecting weakened teeth from further damage or fracture
  • Restoring chewing ability and speech function
  • Preserving natural tooth structure over extraction or prosthetic alternatives
  • Maintaining bite alignment and jaw function
  • Providing a long-lasting solution when cared for properly

Crowns can last 10 to 15 years—or longer—with proper hygiene, dietary habits, and routine dental visits.

  • Consistent Recognition

What's more, both of our doctors have been recognized every year since 2016 as Best Honolulu Magazine Dentists, which reflects our commitment to patient care, clinical quality, and community trust.

  • Full-Service Continuity

With everything handled in-house except for one stage in laboratory manufacture, you gain continuous care under those same providers. We check on your tooth through the process and afterward check on it periodically to ensure the crown performs as well over time.

Start Your Road to Dental Implants

Missing teeth or an unfixable tooth can have significant effects on chewing, the health of your bone, and your nutritional well-being. The implant replaces the tooth root with a strong and enduring foundation upon which chewing ability and oral mechanics can be rehabilitated.
